Touching base

Apparently, I have too much going on constantly, but I don’t ever feel like I’m doing anything.

That and I don’t really feel the need to publicize when things aren’t going well – I just get my butt in gear and fix them, rather than being online passive-aggressive.

It makes me an infrequent blogger.

Anyway, since I’ve not taken the time in a while to queue up some quotes, it’s minor update time.

I’ve buckled down in the last little bit and committed to getting myself in crazy shape. I’ve not been in terrible shape over the last couple years, but I’ve found my motivation again, and I’m focusing on getting the last part of the atrocity that is the muffin top gone. It’s those nice little bits right on top of hip sides – my obliques simultaneously love me and hate me.

I’ve also re-committed to pole, after working through a mental (and physical) block, and have also started taking the studio’s Yoga for Pole class to help with my flexibility. Yoga’s really helped overall, since it’s teaching me how to clear my brain and actively relax muscles, and has helped me drop my crazy intensity a bit further. I’m pleased with my progress with pole, especially since I’ve found a way to deal with the dainty bitch skin that made every single move agonizing – and it’s ridiculously easy, dog paw pad toughener. Go figure.

Other new activities include pseudo-kickboxing, in the form of one of those workout DVDs, and hooping, also via DVD, since my pole addiction takes up the money available for classes. The kickboxing is helping me get some cardio in and some focused/intense ab/oblique work in, and hooping does the same, but with a different perspective and more focus on flow, rather than straight-up ass kicking. I’ve also contemplated picking up my poi again and working on new tricks, but I’m still trying to gauge if it’s a momentary want, or something I’m willing to devote some time to.  I guess the best way to figure that out would be to start working on the backwards three-beat weave again and see if/how frustrated I get.

I’m kinda-sorta working on the Halloween costumes for the sigoth and myself – it’s not in super crazy time yet, but they’re also pretty low key, with just some minor alterations and decorating to be done.  I’ve recently wrapped up a commission, and am looking for another one, but I’m trying to make some progress on the cross stitch that I’ve been working on for 16 years.  (Yes, it’s embarrassing that it’s taken me this long, but I have a tendency to work on it like crazy for a while, and then put it away for a year or so.)

Overall, though, I’m in a really good brainspace and having a pleasant time.
