Wishful thinking

Any polers know of a way to toughen up sensitive skin – other than doing the trick a gazillion times?  

Unfortunately, my skin’s so ridiculously sensitive that it’s extremely hard to try to do a trick more than twice or three times, without getting to the point of tears from the skin burn. 

My teacher’s never seen skin so sensitive, and I’m hoping that someone out there can make my pole journey a touch easier – and less frustrating and painful. I don’t mind doing the work to learn the trick, but when it’s pretty close to agonizing it’s extremely hard to stay motivated.
