Another apology for being slow to update the blog. It’s crazy season for me, as Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, because of the joy of costuming. As I’ve wrapped up the commission for the season, that tested every bit of my skill, coming out on top in a couple of places, and patience, also defeating that – I did contemplate throwing it out the window last night, but I prevailed, I can now move to other projects and commissions. First on the list is knocking out the shrug for my costume, and then taking care of some examples for the site in the form of a tribal bellydance top and belt. I’m still trying to find trims for the two, but it’s hard with multiple ideas rolling around. Ideally, I’d like to find some pearl colored trim, and have a quasi-Victorian feel to it, with pearls and lace – which is quite a juxtaposition when it comes to belly dance.
Planning for Halloween 2014 is already started – I’ll need to get my butt in gear for that, since I fully anticipate the sigoth’s costume of the set to be more challenging, so I’m going to try to get mine out of the way pretty early. I’m also looking to get more than one done for next year, so we’ll see how much of my impending costume list I can manage to accomplish. It’ll be fun – if not crazy-inducing, although I really wish I could pick costumes that don’t entail my freezing my butt off. But there are worse things.
On the dance front, I’ve been really taking a look at what I want to focus on, and forcing myself to prioritize, after having the crazy schedule for a while, and living on the brink of exhaustion. So, I’ve cut things down to just pole classes, and I’ll drop in on an aerial fitness class from time to time, but while I enjoyed playing with silks, the class was too big, and the teaching style wasn’t in tune with how I learn – not to mention that my poor ankles did not appreciate running in place barefoot on a concrete warehouse floor. I’ve also taken a break from Sizemology – some teacher turnover and studio-related group issues made the space tension-filled and not a good place for a bit. It appears that those issues have been resolved, and I’m contemplating private lessons, in order to get some projects closer to performance.
Overall, life’s pretty fantastic, after a small bit of rough pavement, and always leave them wanting more!
